Jaxson Mack
Applied Forest Ecologist
Jax joined the team in 2026, bringing a diverse background in forestry, conservation biology, ornithology, and data management. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Ursinus College and a Master of Science in Conservation Biology from the University of Rhode Island. His graduate research focused on identifying genetic differentiation among mammal populations across island landmasses to better inform conservation management. Following his graduate studies, Jax pursued his passion for birds as a Naturalist with the Audubon and later as a Field Biologist with the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. This work deepened his commitment to protecting avian habitat, leading him into forestry, where he served as a Forester with Casey Trees. He went on to become Director of Conservation for Friends of the Rye Nature Center, overseeing all land stewardship and ecological restoration initiatives.
As an Applied Forest Ecologist, Jax conducts ecological monitoring and research to determine forest health and resiliency. He helps develop and implement forest management plans and environmental assessments for the Preserve. He is excited to contribute his varied background in forest management, wildlife studies, community outreach, and project management to Mohonk Preserve.
