Ed Pestone

Associate Director of Land Protection & GIS

Ed joined the Preserve as Seasonal Land Steward in May 2015, becoming full-time in 2016 and ascending to his current role in 2024. His responsibilities include land acquisition, overseeing easement and boundary monitoring, maintaining compliance with Land Trust Alliance standards & practices, maintenance of property records as well as overseeing the implementation, operation, and maintenance of GIS-related activities at the organization.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science (focus area: Environmental Information and Mapping) from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) and an Associate of Science degree in Environmental Studies from SUNY Ulster. Ed further developed his skills through various work and internship experiences with state and municipal agencies. He is a founding member of the New York Hudson Valley Chapter of the Society for Conservation GIS and has given presentations on GIS and land trust topics at various conferences and events.

Ed grew up in Ellenville and has deep family connections to areas on and around the Shawangunk Ridge.
