Birds in the Hand: Experience how bird banding informs conservation
June 14 @ 7:00 am - 10:30 am

Join Mohonk Preserve Research Associate and SUNY New Paltz professor, Dr. Kara Belinsky and her research team for an early morning bird banding experience. Dr. Belinsky is a USGS master bird bander who has been running banding stations at Mohonk Preserve and nearby locations for 9 years to study how forest size and connectivity supports bird populations. Sign up for one of three, one-hour long blocks to meet Dr. Belinsky and her team, hear about the research, and see the researchers in action as they band the birds, identify them to species, measure, and age them. The data gathered from banding these birds is combined with data from 300+ other bird banding stations across the continent that are used to track bird populations and to inform conservation priorities. This is a free program for members of all ages and children must always be accompanied by a registered adult. Nonmembers pay the $15 day use fee at the trailhead; children under the age of 16 are free. Space is limited and registration is required for specific time slots.
Rain Date: June 21st
