The Mohonk Preserve launches its 50th-anniversary year with a grand reopening April 27 of the renovated Visitor Center on Route 44/55 in Gardiner.
Upgrades include the transformation of the gift shop into an orientation theater with panoramic films about the spectacular natural resources of the Shawangunk Ridge. The center also boasts a reconfigured Kid's Corner, a new topographic model with searchable touch screens and the renovation of the handicapped-accessible Sensory Trail. New signage clarifies the location of the under-used Children's Forest near the parking lot, where opening-day activities include a Creature Crawl and forest floor exploration.
