In theory at least, the Shawangunk Ridge is home to bobcats and the occasional cougar. But who among us - even longtime diehard hikers - has ever caught a glimpse of one, aside from the stuffed and mounted specimens in the Mohonk Preserve Visitors' Center? Not many, to be sure.
